How‌ ‌To‌ ‌Acquire‌ ‌Health‌ ‌Insurance‌ ‌Amidst‌ ‌a‌ ‌Pandemic‌ ‌

When there is a global pandemic on the loose, it is crucial to have quality health care and health insurance. Unfortunately, 33.5 million Americans. Since most employees’ health insurance is paid by their employers, 27 million US citizens.

For many, the biggest problem lies in obtaining a new plan. Depending on your situation, the following are some of the choices that are available to you:
  1. Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA)
The recently unemployed have the option of keeping their current health coverage under the federal law known as COBRA, provided that their company had at least 20 employees. What’s beneficial about this is that since your plan is the same as when you were employed, your network of doctors and hospitals, deductibles, etc., will remain the same.

The downside is that it can be quite costly because you would have to shoulder the full monthly premium all by yourself, without any contributions from your boss.

  2. Medicaid
Medicaid is the national free health insurance program for people with little to no monthly income. Citizens who were already uninsured before the pandemic and employees who recently lost their livelihood may check whether they can enroll in Medicaid at any time of the year. If you live in DC or in any of the 37 states that are covered by Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), then the greater your chances are of getting in.

  3. State Insurance Exchanges
Another choice would be the health insurance exchanges under the ACA. If your state has its own insurance marketplace, pay them a visit to see if you can enroll and shop for a new plan. A subsidized ACA health plan could cost you nothing in monthly insurance premiums.

  4. Short-term Plans
Short-term health insurance plans, at first glance, have more affordable monthly premiums and can be seen as good long-term alternatives. Yet the plans often have more coverage restrictions than ACA plans like excluding prescription drugs or capping the hospital fees that they'll pay. If you do consider one of these plans, take care to peruse the fine print.

Right now, everyone is worried about COVID-19. But in reality, our healthcare needs go beyond the coronavirus. Falling ill while being uninsured could lead to bankruptcy, so it’s always recommended to get insured if you can.

At Choice Enrollment, we do our best in making sure that our clients are well-protected with affordable and comprehensive policies. We make sure to go the extra mile to help you with your needs.
